Liz Truss, launched the premiere of her video series with a pledge to reveal "the evil-doers" striving to undermine the UK, United States and European nations. She explained she would reveal how an "global web of leftists work to weaken popular rule and the public's choice."

"Our focus will be on the Maga phenomenon and see how it can be achieved in Britain," the former PM stated. "Our guests will include the key figures of the Trumpist political sphere."

Forging Alliances in the Conservative Media Landscape

Its obsessions involve claims of media suppression by the traditional news outlets and a goal to eradicate a conspiratorial 'deep state' – which she attributes her downfall to for the swift end of her disastrous time in office.

"The platform is not well-known outside of the Maga-verse, but it does have gravitas there, mostly due to Solomon, who provides analysis on pro-Trump shows like the program hosted by Steve Bannon and has even spoken with Donald Trump," said Professor Alex Hinton, who has extensively researched the Trumpist political wave.

A Controversial Partner

Truss's attempt to import the pro-Trump media model to the UK has drawn her nearer to divisive personalities such as John Solomon.

He set up Just the News in the wake of scrutiny when allegations surfaced of circulating misleading narratives about Joe Biden's anticorruption effort in the Ukraine, as well as controversial stories about the former US ambassador to the region.

His claims were amplified across the pro-Trump outlets, with he featuring as a common interviewee on the prominent cable news broadcast. Donald Trump endorsed his stories.

The journalist published the reports about Ukraine in a series of columns for the outlet the Hill, where he was re-designated as an opinion writer following internal criticism over his articles. These reports were key in Trump's demand for the officials in Kyiv to look into the Bidens in that year. These actions resulted in articles of impeachment against Trump. Weeks after he exited the newspaper in October 2019, the publication stated it was conducting a examination of his reporting concerning the Ukraine issue. It found the journalist had used unreliable sources and noted he "omitted important details about primary contacts in Ukraine, specifically the detail that they had been formally accused or were under investigation."

Entering the Ecosystem

His media appearances are a sign of the right-wing media network Truss is entering. He discussed his backing of her new show on a broadcast he helps run on Real America's Voice, a conservative television outlet that is the base for the Maga influencer Steve Bannon and on which former Fox host Tucker Carlson also features. She has already hosted Steve Bannon on a debut installment.

By partnering with Solomon and Just the News, the former leader has become a small part in a much wider network of right-wing publications that frequently amplify each other's content.

Solomon's own podcast and Real America's Voice show have frequently included figures such as influencer Mike Benz, a conservative commentator whose disparagement of the foreign aid agency was referenced by the X owner as grounds for shutting down the government body.

A Global Media Play

Although Truss's stilted style and professional woes have invited ridicule at home, some US observers do not dismiss her attempts to rebrand as a UK offshoot of the pro-Trump media ecosystem.

"One must regard folks like that seriously, despite the fact that you may not want to take them literally," commented a former Biden White House aide, who worked in the Biden White House.

"It was evident how in the last election cycle President Trump utilized that ecosystem to disseminate his views. Undoubtedly that sphere transmits and affects conversation abroad. It looks relatively clear to me that the environment in the UK are similar to what enabled this non-mainstream media network to thrive in the US."

Alan Finlayson, said the internet-based conservative network was already having an impact in the United Kingdom.

"Digital media knows no borders," Finlayson remarked. "There is a certain milieu within which ideas travel – sometimes taking an extreme form and other times more moderately – but which is interlinked."

Professor Hinton said the growth of the internet-based right wing in the United Kingdom lately meant the "potential to have a larger effect is significant."
